WHERE DOES SHOKOUH STAND?
Over half a century ago, when Dr M. Shokouh started developing his approach in teaching English to Persian people, the English language was yet to be comprehensively known to the nation. In addition, the criteria of methods applied in teaching English as a foreign language at the time were far too general in character and by no means adapted to the particular requirements of Iranians.
As the pioneer of a unique approach, Dr Shokouh started Shokouh's English Language institute in 1950 with a total of four students. Today, nearly sixty years on, SEI is still going strong with thousands of students and a growing crop of teachers that it has trained over the years. Over the years SEI has educated millions of students, to a competent level of English comprehension, many of whom are ELT instructors throughout Iran and the world. |

WHAT MAKES US SO DIFFERENT? |

We have classes for all age groups ranging from 6 year olds to adults- the level of students is determined by how much they know, not by how old they are.

Those teenage and adult students who are found to be poor at spoken English would have to go through one of the two LJ (Lower Junior) courses also known as CAELT (Corresponding Approach to English Language Teaching) which lays the foundation for the Spoken English Courses. By studying LJ a new memory is formed parallel with the students' first language. Moreover, Shokouh is the only institute that offers CAELT courses.
We engage our learners, during the first half hour of every two-hour session, in a challenging act of Persian-English translation based on a large amount of sub drills. Applying a series of our own special techniques, at a later stage, we try to decrease the stated amount bit by bit, as new pieces are replaced through drills in English which appear in forms of indirect, direct questions and finally dialogues on real life situations.
NB LJ's are for those students who do not have the slightest idea what English really is.
